Safe rowing at Level 2 starting this weekend
Rowing this weekend
Casual rowing only. Booking required.
Mobile check-in for contact tracing.
Dear Members,
The Club Captain and committee have met to consider all the steps that need to be undertaken in order to safely resume rowing in accordance with the requirements set down this week by the government and the Director General of Health. The following processes are consistent with detailed advice given by Rowing NZ and Sport NZ.
Principles
The overriding principles are similar to those in any workplace or place where people gather:
1. If you’re not sure, stay home
• If you are feeing unwell – stay home
• If you have any of the recognised symptoms of Covid-19 – stay home
• If you have been tested for Covid-19 and do not yet have a clearance – stay home
2. Stay in small groups:
• Casual rowing only of up to 10 people at a time. There will be no squad training sessions until further notice.
• Up to 10 people can be on the premises at any given time. This will require staggered access times and co-operation between groups
• The makeup of crews must be determined before you arrive at the shed
• Once at the clubhouse you cannot move between groups.
• Once you have completed your training, please leave the premises straight away. Do not linger and socialise
3. Observe social distancing
• As you arrive and depart
• When you encounter other crews.
• When changing and showering
4. Everyone must register
Everyone who enters the must register immediately on entering the premises and sign out on leaving. To make this simple and contactless we have adopted an electronic track and trace application: CHECKIN-19. Further details below.
5. Practice good hygiene
• Wash your hands thoroughly
• Wash all equipment
You can find a set of FAQs at http://theaucklandrowingclub.org.nz/level-2-faq/ giving further details of safe rowing arrangements and practices.
How to organise a row
The club will be open to pre-arranged crews from 8:00 am on Saturday 16 May:
Saturday 16 May Club rowers only. From 8:00 am
Sunday 17 May Masters rowers only. From 8:00 am
Monday 18 May Club rowers
Tuesday 19 May Masters rowers
Wednesday 20 May Club rowers
Thursday 21 May Masters rowers
Friday 22 May Club and Masters rowers
Access arrangements will repeat each week until further notice. Note: 8:00 am starts apply to this first weekend only.
To allow crews to get on the water separately we need to stagger arrival times. That means booking in advance. To book a row, email Caspar Hammond (caspar.coxing@gmail.com) with your crew names, preferred boat type and access time. He will confirm a time and boat.
How to register
Once you arrive at the clubhouse you must register. Use your smartphone camera to scan a QR code (on posters in the clubhouse) or register via a browser. Data will be stored securely but can be accessed directly by the Ministry of Health should anyone who uses the club test positive for Covid-19. Full instructions for registering will be posted prominently in the clubhouse, alongside the QR code. You can also find them online.

You must check out on leaving. If you have any difficulty, please email your contact details and arrival / departure times to the Health and Safety Officer (details below).

Please cooperate fully with any requests they make. The committee has delegated them the authority to make decisions about safety and compliance, including restricting access and closing the premises if necessary.
We realise this is less than ideal and that the requirements may seem onerous. They are, however, necessary for us to comply with the public health measures governing active recreation and sport. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
