Covid-19 alert moving to level 3. Clubhouse will remain closed

Dear Members,

Today’s announcement of the move to Covid-19 level three on 29 April raises the question of when and how members can start using the club’s facilities again.

Not yet.

While some individual recreational activities are permitted under Level 3, sports like ours do not qualify:

“You can do activities that are local, which you can do safely, and which do not involve interacting with other people, or equipment touched by other people.”

Rowing New Zealand has also given advice to clubs that under Alert Level 3 all clubs, erg rooms, offices and facilities should be closed, and all activities suspended.

Accordingly, Auckland Rowing Club facilities remain closed to all members, groups, schools, affiliates and other users. This restriction will apply until the alert level changes, which we expect to last for at least the next two weeks, as outlined today by the Prime Minister.

As we do not know how long the Auckland region will remain at Alert Level 3, members with private boats stored at the club house may wish to remove them. If this is compliant with any travel restrictions, please email the Club Custodian, casparhammond@cantab.net, to make arrangements for non-contact removal.

The earliest that we are likely to see some access to the clubhouse will be when we move to alert level two. In the meantime, committee members are developing protocols that follow Rowing NZ’s advice in anticipation of such a move. We will keep you informed as restrictions ease. Please stay safe and healthy in your bubbles, practice physical distancing and look after one another. We’re looking forward to seeing you back on the water, as soon as it’s safe and legal.
